Tools for hard-hitting investigations

Reports

Award-winning journalist, Mark Lee Hunter, delivered a powerful investigations workshop for Bristol Cable Media Lab trainees and UWE journalism students last week.

Hailed for its robustness and simplicity, Story-based Inquiry (SBI) is a method pioneered by Mark Lee Hunter to assist journalists in crafting their investigations. After an intensive day learning SBI, trainees are now better equipped to plan and publish investigations efficiently.

Investigations are a dying form of journalism in urgent need of revival; making this session all the more vital. Indeed, most newsrooms are quickly becoming averse to risky and challenging investigations, preferring clickbait over quality. That’s why at the Cable, we’re committed to equipping local people with the tools to deliver hard hitting, public-interest journalism.

This collaborative workshop between the University of West England Journalism department and the Bristol Cable, is just one step towards shaping a better media for the city.
